Technical setup#
This diagram shows you some important aspects of TU Delft’s iRODS datagrid
Resource servers#
The orange blocks (named surfS3Resc1, surfResc1, tudResc1 and tudRescDaic) in the diagram designate iRODS resource servers. These are the iRODS nodes that actually hold your datafiles. In iCommands you can use these names to target a resource server. Note that tudResc1 is the default resource server; when you do not explicitly specify one, your new data will end up on this server.
The names following system: are the domain names for these resource servers. When connecting to iRODS, you can either connect to “irods.tudelft.nl”, our default publicized name, or directly to the name of a resource server. When you are uploading large amounts of data it helps to connect to the resource server where you want your data to end up. This will avoid data having to be streamed between the various iRODS nodes.
Storage systems#
The gray blocks connected to the resource servers show which type of datastorage is used, and how it is connected to the corresponding resource server. This will seldom be of interest to end users.
